Fox Grove School

Safeguarding

AT FOX GROVE SCHOOL, WE RECOGNISE THAT YOUR CHILD IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND CONCERN.

We want to work in partnership with you and we will share successes with you, and discuss with you any concerns we may have.

Since our first priority is your child’s welfare, there may be rare occasions when our concern about your child means that we have to consult other agencies even before we contact you. The procedures we will follow have been laid down by the Surrey Safeguarding Board, and Fox Grove School has adopted a Safeguarding Policy in line with this for the safety and protection of all. If you want to know more about our procedures or the policy, please speak to the MAT DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead).

We take every precaution to ensure that all within our community are safe, healthy and happy. All Fox Grove staff will have enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance. Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) will be senior members of staff and their training will be updated regularly.

NEW SURREY SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN ARRANGEMENTS

The new Surrey Safeguarding Children Arrangements have been published after a consultation with a broad range of stakeholders and the agreed vision is:

“The new safeguarding arrangements will make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Surrey by ensuring that agencies work better together, learn from local and national practice and continuously improve services to enable children and young people to be safe and feel safe in their families and communities.”

From September 2019, the current Surrey Safeguarding Children Board will be replaced by the new Surrey Safeguarding Children Partnership. The Partnership which will be led, jointly and equally, by these three statutory Safeguarding Partners:

  • Surrey County Council
  • Surrey Police
  • Guildford and Waverley CCG (acting on behalf of all CCGs and NHS Providers in Surrey)

THE PREVENT STRATEGY AND PREVENT RISK ASSESSMENT

What is the Prevent Strategy?

  • Prevent is the government strategy designed to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremists causes. The strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including political and religious extremism.
  • From 2015, all schools have a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism. All schools, including Fox Grove School have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views in the same way we protect them from drugs and violence.
  • Schools should provide a safe place for pupils to discuss their issues, so they have a better understanding of how to protect themselves.

What does this mean in practice related to Fox Grove School Pupils?

The needs of the local and wider community and the chronological and developmental needs of the school population informs how we at Fox Grove School implement our duty to safeguard all pupils. As a school we:

  • Explore cultures and religions and promote diversity through our SMSC calendar.
  • Challenge prejudice and racist comments as they occur with the support of the DSL team.
  • Facilitate discussions that are suitable for the age and maturity of all pupils.
  • Support the development of a strong, positive self-identity through a well sequenced PSHE/RSE curriculum and support through ELSA.
  • Promote the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development as well as the British values of democracy.
  • Protecting children from the risk of radicalisation, using internet filters, online safety lessons as part of the computing curriculum, representation of a CEOP Ambassador and robust vetting and safer recruitment processes for all visitors and prospective staff in school.
