Assessment reveals what a child or young person knows, understands and can do. It is the means used to evaluate children’s and young people's progress and is central to securing strong outcomes through precisely planned teaching. Good assessment impacts on the long term destinations of young people and enables each individual to fulfil their potential and prepare them for life.
At Fox Grove we use three main elements in assessment: in-school formative; in-school summative; and national standardised summative assessment. In-school formative judgements are made on an ongoing basis against national curriculum objectives and are linked to specific year group content. They are also made against individual students EHCPs. This enables staff to clearly identify gaps and address them within teaching.
